Indian saffron or curcuma... are both nicknames for this colorful spice. We intentionally refer to the colorful characteristic because this spice gives curry powder or curry its typical yellow color. Turmeric is therefore the most commonly used ingredient in curry dishes, to which it adds color and flavor.
